Dr. Brandon Paul

Dr. Brandon Paul will be joining the Department of Psychology on January 1, 2021 as an Assistant Professor (tenure stream).  

Dr. Brandon Paul earned a B.Mus. in Music Theory and an M.A. in Speech in Hearing Science from Ohio State University, and graduated with a. Ph.D. in Psychology from McMaster in 2016.  He completed a one-year post doctoral position at University of Montreal in the School of Speech Therapy and Audiology in 2017 before moving to Sunnybrook Research Institute where he is currently a postdoctoral fellow.  

Dr. Paul’s current research incorporates sophisticated technology such as electroencephalography (EEG) and electrical brain stimulation to study the cognitive consequences of hearing loss. Ultimately, his work considers whether neural changes associated with hearing loss predict cognitive impairment and serious downstream consequences, including social isolation and mental health challenges.  In addition to many conference presentations and invited talks, he has published 10 journal articles in such outlets as Hearing Research; Neural Plasticity; and Music Perception.
