Join us for an in-person panel discussion and networking event at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) on Thursday, April 25, 2024. This free event is open to professionals working in, or interested in entering fields such architectural, building science, project management, engineering, and construction.
This exclusive Department of Architectural Science (DAS), Project Management in the Build Environment (PMBE), event will include a panel discussion featuring industry professionals with years of experience from various creative fields including architects, contractors, and developers. The speakers will bring new perspectives to the affordable housing discussion with insights from working in the AEC sector.
Come ready to build your network and meet like-minded individuals, subject matter experts, and DAS alumni and instructors.

SPEAKERS
Joaquim Peixoto | Densecity
Joaquim has been on the construction scene for 15 years. He began his construction experience framing custom homes. In 2011, Joaquim created a framing contracting business which operated successfully until he changed paths in 2018. From 2016 to 2018, Joaquim was the sole construction manager for a mid-size developer in the GTA. He managed the development and construction of over 40 rental units over 8 projects, with values ranging from $1 – $9 million. In 2018, he took this experience and co-founded Densecity. Joaquim has developed several multi-unit residential projects in the Toronto core. Joaquim understands what's required to purchase, develop, construct and manage a profitable property in Toronto.
Kwame Ben Eden | Ben Eden Management Consulting Inc.
Kwame Ben Eden is a Principal Consultant at Ben Eden Management Consulting Inc. He applies his extensive Civil Engineering and Construction Management expertise to help clients achieve their project goals. Kwame has over 25 years of progressive experience in managing the construction of leasable retail and ICI Spaces, totaling over 403,000 sqft. and exceeding over $300 million dollars in value.
Kwame has a proven track record of delivering projects on time and on budget, while ensuring quality, safety, and compliance. His skills include analyzing, planning, organizing, and coordinating resources, as well as leading, motivating, and communicating with teams, stakeholders, and government agencies. Kwame holds a Civil Engineering Degree from TMU, Certificate in Project Management from TMU, Project Management Professional(PMP) Designation from the Project Management Institute (PMI) of North America and Professional Engineering Designation (P.Eng) from the Professional Engineering Association of Ontario (PEO).
Cheryl Atkinson | Toronto Metropolitan University
Cheryl is a practicing architect, and an Associate Chair and Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University teaching design and urban housing studios. Prior to joining TMU she was a Senior Associate at Teeple Architects Inc where her projects have been recognized both nationally and internationally for design excellence and their contribution to the public realm, winning a variety of awards, including two Governor
General’s Awards .
Her research interests are in gentle density, missing middle housing, net zero energy housing, and prefabrication. Her architectural practice is focused on affordable, sustainable housing for urban infill sites. She currently has a rental, passive house targeted housing prototype under construction in Toronto.
She has served on the Sustainable Built Environment at the OAA, the Design Review Panel at Metrolinx and as an executive board member of Subtle Technologies, and is a Fellow of the RAIC and member of their South Western Ontario Fellowship Awards Committee.
