Vanessa Vakharia

As the entrepreneur behind The Math Guru, a mathematics and science tutoring company, Vanessa Vakharia is an outspoken advocate for challenging representations of what it means to be “good at math.”Vanessa has shared her ideas at Ryerson, exploding stereotypes to empower young women in STEM fields, and helping redefine intelligence as “cool.” She has brought her inspiring message to first-year students in Ryerson’s mathematics programs, the Women in Mathematics student group and the Mathematics Course Union. She has also been the keynote speaker at the Faculty of Science Awards evening. As a positive role model and someone who removes barriers to diversity in STEM, Vanessa is a key part of Dr. Imogen Coe’s network of women who make a difference.
