Mauricio Ospina
Business Management ’99
The challenges Mauricio Ospina faced at the beginning of his Canadian journey inspired him to make that path easier for other newcomers with a Hispanic background. After founding several programs aimed at building up the Hispanic community in Canada — such as the annual 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians Awards - Mauricio turned his attention to young people. Together with Victor Garcia, Mauricio led a campaign for Hispanic students which raised $110,000 for new awards at Ryerson University. The Hispanic/Latino Student Awards, the first of which were given out in March 2017 at the Student Experience Awards Ceremony, improve access to post-secondary education, entrepreneurship, mentorship and career guidance, and provide crucial support to students in financial need. Ryerson thanks Mauricio for his steadfast commitment to fundraising for these awards, and for the outstanding impact they have on Ryerson students.
