In 2005, while still students at Ryerson, Chris Nguyen, Sundeep Mokha, Andy Lai and Lee Liu entered the School of Business Management’s annual Standard Broadcasting Business Plan Competition. They didn’t take top prize but they received a $15,000 loan from the Canadian Youth Business Foundation and strong encouragement to pursue their idea. The result? JobLoft.com, a new and innovative jobsite specializing in the retail, food services and hospitality industries. Within a year, JobLoft had posted 20,000+ jobs from top employers across Canada, and media around the country had reported on its inventive approach to recruitment. In 2006, the foursome were featured winners of the CBC venture capitalist reality television show Dragon’s Den.
