If "The Hunger Games" characters went to TMU
I’m excited to watch the new addition of "The Hunger Games" films, "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of the Songbirds!" With the new film’s current release, I thought it would be cool to shed light on a few programs offered at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), reflecting on the characters from the original Hunger Games trilogy. With that said, based on the characters strengths and personality traits, I’ve explored a few programs at TMU that suit them best.
Katniss Everdeen in Politics and Governance
Katniss is an extremely determined character who’s shown to be fair through her actions. This is first shown when her little sister got selected to take part in the 74th Annual Hunger Games, and Katniss stepped up to bear the suffering instead. Katniss would be in the Politics and Governance program at TMU. This program focuses on the role of the government in social justice and human rights issues. After all, a main takeaway from the films is that Katniss stood up against the Capitol’s corrupt regime to demand moral change.

Rue Barnette in Professional Music
Rue’s the youngest participant of the Hunger Games and a compassionate character in the trilogy. In order to signal to Katniss that she was safe, she hums four notes that the mockingjays mimic and echo through the woods. I see Rue in Professional Music because of her passion for music, and making it big in the modern-music industry thanks to her time in this program.

Peeta Mellark in Nutrition and Food
Peeta is a baker and works at his family’s bakery. On top of this skill, he is extremely empathetic and selfless. I see him in the Nutrition and Food program at TMU. This program prepares students to help individuals meet their nutritional needs. Peeta is known to sacrifice his own safety for the care of others, and this is demonstrated in the movie when he gives bread to Katniss despite facing rough consequences from his mother. Peeta would do well in this program as it would help him establish a career in food service industries, healthcare or meal program management.

Effie Trinket in Fashion
With Effie’s vibrant clothing and personality, she would make it in the Fashion program. TMU students shape the future with fashion in respect to their creative imagination. As Effie works for the Capitol, she’s privileged to have a variety of loud costumes to suit different occasions. Through this program she’ll be able to become a global leader in the realm of spunky and bright costumes.

Gale Hawthorne in Mechanical Engineering
Gale is best suited for the Mechanical Engineering program at TMU as he designs weapons to use against the Capitol. This program uses knowledge and experience to build hands-on technology for the betterment of society. Learning about energy-efficient systems and designing technological machines, this program prepares students to solve real-world problems in fields such as construction, automotive and product design. Gale uses his strategic expertise to design military weapons for society's well-being.
