The Best TMU Social Media Accounts to Follow as a Student
Social media, it’s good for many things. You can keep up with your favourite celebrities, see pictures of cute puppies and even discover some pretty great life hacks. Did you know that social media can also help you know what’s up at university? Here are the best Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) accounts you should be following as a student.
@torontomet
Following the official Toronto Met Instagram (external link, opens in new window) , Toronto Met TikTok (external link, opens in new window) , Toronto Met Twitter (external link, opens in new window) and Toronto Met Facebook (external link, opens in new window) accounts is the best way to stay updated on everything TMU. @studentlifetmu
Student Life at TMU is the best place to watch relatable videos about being a student, as well as content about programming and events at the university. These accounts are run as part of the Office of the Vice Provost, Students (OVPS) and are a great way to find out about everything the OVPS does for students like you. Follow the TMU Student Life Instagram (external link, opens in new window) and TMU Student Life TikTok (external link, opens in new window) for fun and informative content!
Your program
Your program will likely have a social media account for you to follow. They could be on Instagram and maybe even TikTok or Twitter. These accounts will post important reminders about dates to drop a course, pay tuition fees and course enrolment days. My program, Creative Industries, has a Creative Industries Instagram (external link, opens in new window) run by our academic advisors. By following them I never forgot to do anything important. It’s helpful to follow these accounts to make sure you stay informed about being a student in your program!
Your faculty
In addition to following your program, following your faculty is a great way to learn more about any events and opportunities they’re hosting. I follow The Creative School’s Instagram (external link, opens in new window) , and I love seeing all the cool work that other students in my faculty are doing.
Your course union
A course union (external link, opens in new window) is a form of student government for your program. Throughout the semester, they’ll hold events and host other opportunities for you to participate in. The best way to get to know about them is by following their social media! In my fourth year I was the Vice-President of Communications for the Creative Industries Course Union (CICU), and the CICU Instagram (external link, opens in new window) and CICU TikTok (external link, opens in new window) were the best ways to find out about what we were doing for current students.
