The Best Spots to Eat on the TMU Campus

The Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) campus is close to so many good restaurants and eateries in the city, but you can find some delicious food right on campus! Trust me, I’ve eaten at most of these places, and you should too! Check out these options and can’t-miss eats.

1. Oakham Café

Eating regularly at Oakham Café (external link, opens in new window)  has really become a staple in my TMU life. I eat there at least once a week because the food is that good, the portions are hearty and the prices are affordable for people living that #StudentLife. My go-to is the breakfast wrap with a side of homefries for brunch.

2. Hub Café

I visited the Hub Café a lot in my first year and loved their food. They have a number of options that are grab-and-go, which is perfect for getting a snack or meal in between classes. The Hub Café has soups, salads, baked goods, pizza and even a “Friendly Fiver” special every day, which is a meal that costs only $5! You can also customize your meals at the Grill & Co and Revolution Noodle stations. Chances are that you can find something to eat here, and take it to your favourite spot on campus.

3. The Met Campus Pub

If you’re looking for yummy pub eats and somewhere to watch sports at the end of your day on campus, look no further than The Met Campus Pub (external link, opens in new window) ! They have fries, chicken wings, burgers and more. I recommend their cauliflower bites with hot sauce! This is a great place to hang out with friends, and also play some pool or foosball. Student groups often host events here, so keep an eye out for things like pub nights, trivia and open mics.

The best part about Oakham Café, the Hub Café and The Met Campus Pub is that you can use your OneCard to pay for your food! By paying with your OneCard, you get to save the tax on your meal. You can load your OneCard with funds, or you might already have some on it if you have a meal plan. Check out the full list of TMU Eats eateries on their website!

4. The Met Dining Room

If you’re a real foodie, then you have to check out The Met Dining Room located in the Ted Rogers School of Management. It’s a restaurant run by students in HTF 506: Food and Beverage Operation. They update The Met Dining Room Instagram account (external link, opens in new window)  with what they are serving every week, and it all looks amazing. It’s also priced very well for a more upscale on-campus dining experience. I have never been here, but it’s now on my to-do list before I graduate.

5. Balzac’s

If you’re just looking to grab a coffee or baked goods to keep you awake for class or a study session, hit up Balzac’s (external link, opens in new window) ! Located in the School of Image Arts, this café is always bustling with students, making it the perfect place for a study session if you like a busy atmosphere. It’s also a great place to grab your favourite drink before moving on with the rest of your day. I almost always get an iced chai with oat milk here.

6. Page One

Page One (external link, opens in new window)  is another spot that has yummy food and drinks, and it’s also a great study space. Though this technically isn’t part of campus, I’m including it because I always see students and professors walking around this location. Located near the Rogers Communication Centre, they offer specialty coffee drinks and pizza — I feel like nothing else really needs to be said about that. Sign me up!

No matter what your food tastes are, there is something on campus that will grab your attention! I love that there are so many good options, and that it’s so easy to grab something while you’re going about your day. I hope you get to try all of these places, and maybe even discover some new spots one day!

Until next time,
