7 Signs TMU is the Best Fit for You

I get it — it can be difficult to decide which university to attend. There are so many factors that can affect your decision to pick one school over another. Maybe you’re just waiting for the answer to manifest itself. If that’s the case, here are seven signs that Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) might be the best fit for you!

1. You love the city

The TMU campus is located right in the heart of downtown Toronto, so if you love the hustle and bustle of big cities, this might be the place for you. If you love to shop, the CF Toronto Eaton Centre (external link, opens in new window)  is right beside our campus. There are also countless restaurants and eateries to try if you’re a foodie at heart.

Yonge-Dundas Square is one of the hubs of downtown Toronto, and is right next to TMU.

2. Your favourite colours are blue and gold

The official TMU colours are blue and gold, so if those are two of your favourite hues, you’ll fit right in here. You’ll absolutely love wearing our swag and seeing the branding splashed across campus!

3. You want hands-on learning

Getting real-life experience often solidifies what you learned in a lecture. TMU offers many opportunities for hands-on and experiential learning across our programs. Students can test out their new skills by experimenting in labs, working at an internship or co-op placement or completing a research project in a subject that interests them. For example, this semester I’m working in a group to facilitate a collaboration workshop for a company of our choosing — it doesn’t get much more hands-on than that!

4. You enjoy meeting new people

One of the greatest things about starting university is the opportunity to meet so many new people. At TMU, there are quite a few ways to make new friends. You can join the course union (external link, opens in new window)   for your program (check out my experience running for my course union!), join one of our many student organizations (opens in new window)  or find a gym buddy at our athletic centres. It can even be as simple as talking to the people beside you in your lectures!

5. Your favourite animal is a falcon

If a falcon is your favourite animal, you’re in luck because our mascot is… a falcon! Hopefully you get to see them flying around campus (yes, the real birds) and cheering on our athletes at all of the TMU Bold (external link, opens in new window)  games.

6. You like to have fun outside of class

Although learning is a very important part of your post-secondary experience, there’s also a lot to pursue outside of the classroom. There are many opportunities to have fun and socialize with fellow TMU students at events hosted by organizations like the Toronto Metropolitan Student Union (external link, opens in new window)  and the various course unions. My course union recently had a Taylor Swift-themed pub (external link, opens in new window)  night for all TMU students, and it was a hit!

7. You want a part-time job on campus

One of the things I really wanted when I was thinking about university was an on-campus job that would give me some experience in a field I was interested in. TMU’s Career Boost program has tons of job opportunities in different areas across campus. Whether you’re interested in digital marketing, events, outreach, data management, administrative assistance or something else, there’s likely a position on campus that’ll interest you! Hopefully one or more of these signs helped you decide whether or not TMU is right for you! If all seven spoke to you, then maybe it really is meant to be!

Until next time,
