6 Things to Do While Waiting to Hear Back From TMU
Even though it was a few years ago now, I still remember the waiting period between when I sent in my university applications and when I finally heard back from everyone. I was really wondering what to do with myself! To help keep you from constantly checking your emails and university portals, here are six things you can do while waiting to hear back from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU)!
1. Check out our After Applying page
Our After Applying page is the perfect resource to help you while you wait for a decision from TMU. Following all the steps on this page will ensure that your entire application is complete, so make sure you bookmark it!
2. Do some research
While waiting for a decision, do some research so you’re prepared when one does come in! You can look more closely at the programs you applied to (in case you have to pick between multiple offers), explore the classes you’ll be able to take or check out things like residence and student life. This is fun research, don’t worry! I loved looking into these things because it got me excited for what was ahead. Reading through the Future Student Blog and following our ChooseTMU Instagram (external link, opens in new window) and TikTok (external link, opens in new window) are also a great ways to learn more.
3. Make a wish list
University is likely the beginning of a new chapter in your life, and it means a whole lot of new things are coming your way. You might need new stuff for your dorm room, new tech and supplies for your classes or maybe you’ll want to try some new experiences (especially if you’re heading to a new city for university). Make a wish list of things and experiences you want for this new chapter — even if it’s a library book you’d want to borrow for your commutes to school!
4. Think about your finances
Along with your shiny, new university future comes some expenses. While waiting for your decisions to come through, take a look at entrance scholarships and awards and financial assistance options to help you through your university years.
5. Talk to others
I am the type of person who finds talking to others about what I’m going through very helpful. I recommend looking for opportunities to chat with current university students for their tips. You can even book some time to meet a student from our university who might be in a program or faculty you’re interested in. Also, connect with other future university students waiting to hear back from schools — maybe they’ll have some recommendations on what you can do during this time!
6. Pick up a hobby
Unfortunately, constantly refreshing your email or application portal hoping for news will not make a decision come any faster. Trust me! To help pass the time, I suggest picking up a hobby — preferably one that doesn’t involve a screen — that will help keep your mind off whether or not you have a new notification on your phone. Try reading, crafting, exercising or cooking!
At the end of the day, waiting to hear back about your university decisions might be tough, but there are a few ways to make it a bit more bearable! And remember, follow the steps on our After Applying page to make sure you’re on the right track.
Until next time,
Jenna
