Hey folks!

My name is Nishka Gupta and I will be taking on the role of student ambassador this summer. I’ll be focused on giving you the inside scoop on EVERYTHING Ryerson through creating digital content for all of our social media platforms.

What is my program?

First off, I am a Biomedical Sciences major and am also pursuing a minor in Psychology! I love everything about what I do from at-home organic chemistry experiments all the way to researching treatments for psychological disorders. Something else you should know about me is I’m actually a transfer student. Despite this being my second year at Ryerson, it’s actually my third year in university.

What do I do besides study?

Nothing…

Just kidding!

I love getting involved! This past year I became an executive member of Ryerson’s Stem Cell Club, gained my first internship at a psych startup called SAVYNTECH (external link)  (all because of a networking night Ryerson held), and I run a non-profit organization called SPARK that is dedicated to providing youth with more STEAM-related opportunities.

So, I pretty much single-handedly debunked the whole misconception of not having any time in university.

What do I do in my free time?

I love exercising and yoga. I find it helps start the day off on a good note.

I love reading. It’s always a great way to end the day, and it helps me cut down on screen time.

I love binge watching anything. Some of my favourite shows include: Modern Family, New Girl and Schitt’s Creek. Fun fact: Schitt’s Creek was shot in Ontario (external link) !

I love cooking. Ordering in is convenient, but I enjoy living out my Master Chef dreams.

I love hanging out with my friends. Even during the lockdown, we managed to be just as connected!

What is my advice to you?

As cliché as the movies make it seem, university is truly about branching out and experiencing everything. It’s okay to not know what you want to do, and it’s also okay to venture off of your path.

Something I can’t stress enough is to TAKE BREAKS! I did say you have more time, but it can get overwhelming. You need to learn to listen to your body and take screen breaks, bathroom breaks, mental breaks and even food breaks. It may sound silly, but sometimes when school picks up I even forget to do those things.

Through my experience, these two pieces of advice have helped me grow so much.

Well, that’s all folks! I’m so excited to start sharing content with you.

“See” you soon!
