Class of 2017 - Finance Major

The School of Accounting & Finance at Toronto Metropolitan University is defying convention and objectively shaping the way financial education is delivered at the university level in Canada. Nowhere else do students get the opportunity to take theory and turn it into practice like they do at Toronto Met. Take our first-year Finance courses for example, they prohibit the use of the traditional BA2+ calculator and are examined entirely on Excel, only the most widely used tool in industry!

My colleagues and I represent the inaugural graduating class and we are equipped with a profound confidence that we not only know finance, but we also know what to do with it, a result of some of the best hands-on financial modeling courses in the country.

Although rigorous, the program is flexible in that it allows students the opportunity to pursue their passions and interests alongside their studies. My liberal electives in Chinese studies gave me the opportunity to represent Toronto Met last summer as a sponsored attendee to the 15th International Chinese Bridge Competition. I am also a classical pianist and have been able to pursue my performing and teaching career outside of school without interruption.

When you become a student at the SAF, you become part of a team that places your success as top priority. From the incredible career support offered through the Business Career Hub, to the countless established industry connections available to students, it is easy to see where the competitive advantage exists. I would recommend this progressive program to anyone serious about attaining a modern university education in accounting and finance.

Now a Teaching Assistant and Excel Workshop Facilitator, the biggest impression I take with me as I prepare to graduate is that I've become part of something much bigger than I could have ever imagined when I started four years ago.
